What have you been doing since June, 1990?: After graduation I attended college in Santa Barbara, CA. In 1994, I moved to Tampa, FL to go to graduate school – sight unseen! I began a career in maternal and child health, family support, and child abuse and neglect prevention in 1995, while attending graduate school. I married in May of 1997 and my son, Carter, was born in 2002. Graham was born in late 2004…. (Sometimes one cannot appreciate life’s peaks without the valleys.) In April of 2005, our family was plunged into a deep valley. While I was at work, Graham was shaken by my husband. Graham was hospitalized for two weeks, having sustained permanent brain damage with a host of life-long impacts; BUT, miraculously survived and has GREATLY surpassed all of the doctors’ expectations (huge PEAKS!) My ex-husband was charged with aggravated child abuse and after a 3 ½ year wait to go to trial, was convicted and sentenced in 2008 to 4 ½ years in prison. My faith in God and the support of friends and family across the country have given me the strength to move forward as a single Mom, sole provider, and parent of a special needs child. Ironically, being a part of the child abuse prevention profession has created opportunities to share our story across the state of Florida, and the country, in messages aimed at educating parents on Shaken Baby Syndrome prevention and how to choose caregivers, carefully (more peaks.)

Places you’ve traveled?: OR, WA, CA, AZ, MT, UT, VT, NH, ME, GA, NC, SC, TN, FL, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Nicaragua

Anything else you want to share?: This Mom is looking forward to a vacation in Coeur d’Alene at the end of July! Looking forward to seeing those whose friendships have held fast across the years and over the miles. I’m also hoping to reconnect with friends with whom I’ve lost touch. And, a quick shout-out to Winton Elementary grads… please come, it would be fun to reminisce!
